Stewart Buck, rail historian, teacher, and artist, will present at the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum, 225 10th Street in Boone, Iowa at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023.
With his program Legendary Steam Trains on the Overland Route, Stew will take us back to the golden era of transcontinental steam trains on the Overland Route across Iowa. During the 1920s through the 1940s, luxurious trains including the Columbine, Gold Coast, Los Angeles Limited, Forty-Niner, and others delivered speed, comfort, safety, and courteous service to travelers between Chicago, Omaha, Denver, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. When steam was king of the road, its passenger trains provided a transportation system that was the envy of the world. Take a sentimental journey back to witness the thrilling power and drama of steam locomotives pulling long passenger trains to destinations beyond the distant horizon.
