This program is partially sponsored by Humanities Iowa and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Railroad historian and railfan Doug Nebbe of Ogden presented a
program focusing on the Chicago & North Western line between Boone
and Ogden, Iowa via Moingona. Doug spent many years collecting rare
photos and learning the little-known history of this obscure bit of Iowa railroad history.
Railroad Author, historian, and “passionate” Milwaukee Road fan, Gary
Holzinger, provides insight into the little-known Chicago, Anamosa &
Northern Railway – the “CAN”. This obscure 35 mile-long road was started in
1904, continued through 1912, and “died” in 1915. To add injury to insult, the
railroad’s infrastructure was completely removed by 1917. Be sure to
check out this fascinating look into Iowa railroad history.
